Fingerless Friends CAL

I didn't update yesterday because I took a break. I didn't knit, I used a cheat day for my blanket square, I just read and played video games. We're going through some hard times here. The Husbando has been put on suspension from his job, which he believes means he will probably lose his job. So he is scrambling to find a new job, we're a bit stressed about financial situations, and he's very upset since the reasons they said were completely false and made up. However, we are blessed we live with my parents who will help us out during this time, blessed that The Husbando is very employable, and blessed for a lot of different reasons in general. So is life. We will make it work. It all goes on.

In exciting happy news!!! Today is the start of the Fellowship of the Fingerless Craft A Long! A group of friends on Instagram decided we wanted a craft a long to make fingerless mitts, with no real rules and no time limit, just a place to share our pictures and help each other out! So I'm making matching mitts for my honey cowl. You should join us! On Instagram we use the hash tag #FingerlessFriendsCAL !!

I decided to use the pattern Easy Fingerless Mitts and was nervous because it involves knitting in the round which means of course double pointed needles and you all know I'm terrible at that.

But it went well! I successfully cast on and knit my first round!!!

I decided to make a smaller cuff so that I would have enough wool for both mitts and my honey cowl. I just can't believe how well I'm doing at knitting in the round on double pointed needles! And I'm enjoying it! A lot! This has been so cool, I'm so happy!

I also finished knitting the cuff for the second of the Snow Day Slippers I am making my mom for Christmas today! Woo!!! On the home stretch now!!!

And today's blanket square:

It's supposed to be the checks and ridges pattern but I don't think you can see it.

I decided to make today's color a good day. Even with its ups and downs lately today was good. My knitting was on point, I read a lot, and The Husbando has two interviews lined up for tomorrow!

All in all, I am very blessed.

One Single Slipper

I woke up late today and spent the day being lazy so I don't have much exciting to write about.

As far as knitting goes I decided today the only thing I was going to knit was the snow day slipper I was working on. I just wanted one single slipper to show. We're coming up on the end of the week and I had hoped to have tons of finished things by now, no dice.

I just wanted one single slipper.

So I went on to the sea of k1p1.

By 3pm I had 3 more inches before I could bind off. And I was starting to resent the slipper.

And then I finished it. And I'm so worried it's too small!!! I'll have to have my mom test it before I start the second slipper. At least I got the first slipper done!

I mean, it fits me, but I'm a shoe size 6 and mom's an 8!

So that's about as productive as I was today.
I am also now TEN PERCENT DONE WITH THE MOOD BLANKET WOOHOO!!!!

It makes an excellent scarf right now

A Regular Day

It's been a good day, a regular ole day around here with not much to report about. Now that the weekend is over everyone is going back to daily chores and work. I swept and mopped the house and started the accidently neglected laundry today. The good news is that The Husbando is off for two days after today!
And I spent my morning chugging away at the Snow Day Slippers for my mom's Christmas present. Knitting one of them is taking longer than I expected.

I also finished reading Knitting, a Novel this morning while working on the slipper. It was a good read, very interesting, a bit odd and not quite what I was expecting. It wasn't as life changing as I thought it would be given all the rave reviews I had heard about it. But it was a good read still.

The one thing that did bother me a bit about it was that in parts it painted knitting for yourself in a somewhat negative light. I quite enjoy knitting things for myself, it helps me think and not be so stressed to have things be perfect, knitting is my me time and my outlet. I'm a process knitter. I knit things for others too, but I really enjoy knitting for myself. It's my method of self care. I don't think anything is wrong with that.

Now I'm not sure what to read. I toyed around with reading Possible Side Effects but meh. I might reread Harry Potter. I do that a lot. It's my comforting space. And with fall coming up it just feels right.

I did a lot of work on my Honey Cowl, it's now wearable. Kind of. I really dig these colors on me at least. They make my eyes pop! I'm still neglecting my Nell's Sea Silk Scarf though.

So all in all a good day. I played with my blanket square a bit today. Tried to do a stockinette type border with a garter center type of thing.

Labor Day Knits

Labor day is a day off for laborers right? Well its supposed to be? The Husbando has too work he has been closing and working a LOT lately. I feel so bad for him. I'm showering him in cookies and back massages and loving texts, but I'm sure he can't wait for a day off!

As for me, I'm doing very little housework as possible and celebrating the day off by knitting as much as possible.

I started by making a bit of progress on my mom's Christmas present, the Snow Day Slippers. I still have a ways to go on the foot bed of the first one, but I needed a break from continously knitting k1 p1.

I also knit my blanket square early today, a homey one with ribbing. It's been a nice day with a big family dinner and lots of knitting. And I started reading Knitting, A Novel. I'm taking a break from the Seaside Knitters Novels, I just am in a weird reading space. I'm not sure what I want to read. My brain feels fuzzy lately.

And I did some porch knitting, I got two rounds of the honey cowl done today. I must be losing it to knit with wool when it's 90 out still. So hot.

I will spend my evening reading, knitting, and with a big bowl of candy and salt and vinegar kettle chips. All in all a good day.

Farm Chores and More

Today was a busy day on the homestead. Since mom had the day off she decided we were taking advantage of it by cleaning the hen coop and guinea fowl coop, washing horse water buckets, cleaning the barn, things like that. Very busy.

My baby boy Jay Jay was just happy to get extra hay.
The hens love fresh clean coops so they were happy
These guys, not so much, they yelled at us a lot.

So I didn't get any knitting done in the morning, it was busy, hot, and sweaty. But that's farm life. The animals come first. Always.

Then I baked brown sugar chocolate chip cookies because mom and my sister had been asking me to make them and it's my sister's first day back at work.

And then before and after dinner I got quite a bit of work done on my mom's Christmas Snow Day Slippers all I have to do for the first one is finish the footed knitting!

Then I did some porch knitting on the honey cowl and stockinette stitched my blanket square which is a busy one today!

It's been a good day, but a very very busy day where I have done a lot.
